Learn the most impactful ways to tackle climate change and work together to create a cultural shift through art and culture.

Event dates: Wednesday 14th June, 5.30pm - 7.30pm & Wednesday 28th June, 5.30pm - 7.30pm. Please attend both sessions.

Green Arts Oxfordshire Network has developed a Carbon Literacy Training course for Oxfordshire’s cultural community, certified by the internationally recognised Carbon Literacy Project. To celebrate, GAON is offering Oxfordshire’s artists, activists, musicians, theatre professionals, performers, writers and creative freelancers of all kinds a one-time introductory offer of £10 for a space in the first cohort, limited to 15 people.

This 3-part online Carbon Literacy Course will give you a contextual understanding of what climate change is, the scale of its effects, the most impactful ways to reduce carbon emissions in our sector and what we can do as cultural leaders locally, nationally and globally to work towards net-zero and climate justice.

Carbon Literacy is “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”

The sustainability consultancy firm Jacobs did a study on the effectiveness of Carbon Literacy training, and discovered there is between a 5 and 15% carbon saving per person for those that undertake the training.

You will be certified as Carbon Literate by making an individual pledge and a community pledge of what you can do within your power to make a significant difference to your carbon impact.

Please book via the eventbrite link below....

Who is this three-part Course aimed at?

This course is designed for Oxfordshire’s arts and cultural sector, for individual creative practitioners as well as staff and volunteers of museums, galleries, theaters, arts centres, festivals, cinemas and other types of cultural organisations and community groups.

In the show we see the two friends play. They push the boundaries of what is possible until, together, they find the perfect balance of their limits. Introduction to Queerlesque

Submitted by tartproductions on April 25, 2023 - 12:27

Venue, Timing and Cost

Venue:
Cornerstone Arts Centre
Date(s):
Friday, 9 June 2023
Timing:
7:00pm
Cost:
£15

Dive into the magical world of queerlesque! Brought to you by the team behind Oxford's biggest and best-loved cabaret OxPHWOARd, and creators of The Phwoar Next Door in Didcot, you can have a taste of the limelight with this introductory lesson.

This intro to queerlesque is for everyone (18+), including all body types, gender expressions, and levels of experience.

We will be looking at the fundamentals of classic burlesque and turning them on their head as we play around with all the different ways we can be sexy, silly, or just plain strange on stage. This includes the art of tease, bumps ‘n’ grinds, costume removal, musicality, physicality and characterisation.

You'll be encouraged to experiment with a stage persona, whether you're a comedy clown, a baddie, a bodacious babe, or a gender goblin. Ultimately we will be helping you to bring out the most YOU version of queerlesque.

The class will finish with learning a short routine.

No nudity is required for this class.

FAQ

What is queerlesque?

Queerlesque is a form of burlesque that breaks traditions and expectations. Whereas classic burlesque tends to lean towards embracing femininity to feel empowered, queerlesque is far more broad in scope. It’s all about playing with and subverting expectations.

What should I wear?

Wear something that you are comfortable in and you can move in. You're also welcome to dress up a little if it helps you feel like the hot and sexy person you are!

You should bring a couple of items of clothing or accessories you feel comfortable removing in front of others. Think gloves, ties, jackets (with zippers, poppers, or belts - buttons may be too tricky), dressing gowns, belts, shirts with poppers, scarves, waistcoats, boas, or hats. Don't be afraid to get creative and feel free to message us if you have any questions!

Do I need to know how to dance?

Of course not! This class is highly adaptable so you can tailor the movement to what you are comfortable with. We won't be using counts or lefts and rights.

Who is teaching the class?

The class will be taught by OxPHWOARd babes Ginger Tart (they/she) and Frisky Whispers (he/him). Ginger has 8 years of burlesque experience, including performing at the Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival, founding OxPHWOARd and the Oxfordshire Drag Collective, and bringing their own brand of fantastically bizarre queerlesque to stages internationally. Frisky has five years experience, including performing at Liverpool Burlesque Festival and winning Judges Choice at Spare Rib Superstar 2019.

Do I need to be queer to attend?

Not at all, but you need to respect that this is a space by and for queer people. Avoid assuming anything about a person’s gender or sexuality. Here is a handy guide on how to be an ally to trans and gender non-conforming people: https://www.glaad.org/transgender/allies

Elvis Died of Burgers

Submitted by Pegasus Marketing on April 21, 2023 - 13:51

Venue, Timing and Cost

Venue:
Pegasus Theatre
Date(s):
Saturday, 13 May 2023
Timing:
7.30pm
Cost:
£12-£15

ELVIS DIED OF BURGERS is made and performed by the four BLINK directors who love food. If they’re not eating; they’re talking about it, dreaming about it, and now…dancing, rapping and rhyming about it.

Take a seat at their table as the cast spill the tea on their food stories. Watch as BLINK deep dive into the events of Elvis, The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, at the end of his life with their signature sensory and often bizarre tangents…Good Food Gospel anyone? Can they figure out the thin line between the humour and tragedy of overeating?

ELVIS DIED OF BURGERS has a non-linear narrative. It uses semi-improvised dance, theatre and spoken word to create an exciting ‘edge of your seat’ experience for audience and cast alike.

The show explores themes of food, overeating and death. The show includes swearing and scenes of a mildly sexual nature.

All performances of ELVIS DIED OF BURGERS will be relaxed and all will have integrated BSL. This is an opportunity for audiences to experience a piece of theatre designed with neurodivergent audiences at it’s heart, in which audience members are welcome to move around, make noise and come and go as needed.

For ages 16+

Running time: 70 mins
