OxPHWOARd Pride 2023

Submitted by OldFireStation on April 18, 2023 - 14:57

Venue, Timing and Cost

Venue:
The Old Fire Station
Date(s):
Friday, 7 July 2023
Timing:
7.30pm
Cost:
Standard: £18 | Pay more: £20 | Pay less: £16

In a glittering array of lip syncing, striptease and comedy, Ginger Tart and her cast are celebrating Pride the fabulous way. With some of the best in the subversive UK burlesque and drag scene, OxPHWOARd is an explosion of queer, neo and boundary-pushing cabaret: from the fierce and feisty to the silly and surreal.

With a kitschy approach and a killer soundtrack, this charming show promises to gleefully annihilate preconceptions about gender, race, sexuality, and what it means to be sexy with a wry smile and a face full of glitter.

With a diverse host of drag darlings and burlesque babes, we’re asking you to think strong, think silly, and think sexy. This show focuses on underrepresented groups in the LGBTQ+ scene, including people of colour, trans people, and disabled people. We’re reclaiming space and making it ours!

OxPHWOARd is a show celebrating the camp, queer, and eclectic. Serving fierce, funny and frisky cabaret acts, this is an electric evening showcasing burlesque and drag as you’ve never seen it before. Phwoar!

Lesbians are dirty, aren’t they?

With incredible strength, a pole and a lot of humour, this powerful solo performance explores identity, objectification and what it is to be a gay, ‘barely visible’ woman in a raw and physical journey of empowerment.

With elements of physical theatre, pole and contemporary dance, Rowena Gander, and acclaimed physical theatre director, Elinor Randle, bring playfulness, authenticity, and boldness to this mesmerising work.

“Holds everyone with its extraordinary magnetism… essential viewing” – Sight Lines

“Unmissable theatre… Breath-taking” – Uncover Liverpool

“Gander is an incredible physical theatre performer” – Number 9

“An impressive physical performance… brutal.. yet hilarious” – Writebase

“multi-layered performance filled with ironic humour and revealing truths of queer women’s lives” – Audience member

Climate Cafe Green Arts Oxfordshire Network

Welcome to our climate cafes: gentle facilitated spaces where we share our feelings and thoughts about the climate crisis.

We think our Climate Cafés offer something different from the usual gatherings of people with interests in climate change. They are facilitated – so you can be sure that there will be space for you to speak. They are not designed to recruit you to do anything or to put you under any pressure. The idea behind them is that talking about climate change is really important – but it is often made more difficult by our feelings of guilt that we are not doing enough, or frustration that others are not doing enough. So we provide a space in which we don’t talk about what we or others are doing or should be doing. We just talk about climate change and how it is making us think and feel.

Everyone is welcome. There's no charge. We provide the tea, coffee and cake! Climate cafés are not drop-in events, so please try to arrive in time for the 4pm start (though we won't turn you away if you're a few minutes late!).

Everyone who is concerned about the climate crisis is welcome at climate cafés, though we don't advise children attending.

This event is part of Marmalade Festival 2023, which takes place in 6 venues across Oxford from 11 to 14 April.

The Old Fire Station will be hosting over 90 events including discussions, performances, film screenings and much more. Topics will include how to learn, homelessness, young people and mental health amongst other subjects.

Share your ideas and connect with artists, organisations, activists and potential collaborators at this gathering, open to all. Join this creative climate conversation in the Fusion Arts space at 95 Gloucester Green.

Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week is 9 days of events (10th - 18th June 2023) helping and encouraging people and organisations to act to tackle the climate crisis, and to protect and improve our environment. It is part of the national Great Big Green Week campaign. Last year we held 129 events across Oxfordshire as a community! Come together as a creative community to co-create this event.
