An opportunity has arisen to be involved in a pioneering creative arts project for children aged 7-11 with speech, language and communication needs.

This project, run by Fusion Arts, takes the form of weekly after school art sessions from November 2017 - March 2018. Sessions will be held in schools and at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Anthropology. Participating children are given the chance to share their creativity, discover and explore their experiences using art materials and imagination.

Tristan Murail & Karlheinz Stockhausen

Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Klavierstücke are highly diverse. They take the listener on an extraordinary journey from the post-Webernian (no. 5), through meditative incantation (no. 9), extreme violence (no. 10) to the melody-driven narrative of no. 12, an excerpt from his opera cycle Licht.

Tristan Murail’s Territoires de l’oubli is probably the first extended work that applies the ‘spectral’ method to the solo piano. The instrument is used as a resonating chamber, resulting in a huge wash of sometimes very gradually changing sound.

Programme:

Tristan Murail Territoires de l’oubli
Karlheinz Stockhausen Klavierstücke V, IX, X, XII

Livestreamed on our website from 6.45pm

Jonathan Powell is a pianist and composer. After studies with Denis Matthews and Sulamita Aronovsky, he established an international career as a soloist, his programmes ranging from standard Classical and Romantic repertoire to contemporary and little-known 20th century works. He has performed widely in Europe, as well as in Russia and the US; he has also appeared on national radio of many countries and recorded about 20 CDs.
