This workshop is a REQUIREMENT for everyone dancing AND – if you have little or no experience of contact improvisation please attend a refresher evening on Tue 12 December (details below). Note: we won't be dressing as angels!!

Contact improvisation is a dance which originated in the 1970’s and which has now spread throughout the world. It’s often taught in university dance courses but it’s easy to learn and fun. It’s an improvised dance - a dialogue in movement - which has a fluid and dynamic form, and it’s social dancing; not stage dancing.

Please bring a water bottle and wear loose clothing in which you can move freely.Note: We'll use the MPR (Multi-Purpose Room) on the lower floor of the Club.

PEUT-ÊTRE THEATRE

When it starts out ship-shape, there’s only one way for it to go… this dance-theatre show gets all messed up!

As we wriggle our way through the muddle of life we often discover things anew. So why can’t tidiness be exciting for children or chaos joyful for adults? Who said there’s a ‘right way’ anyway?

Inspired by children’s logic when creating order, patterns and systems, this show is a
witty, uplifting journey discovering whether chaos and order can ever live side-by-side…
with plenty of surprises, Tidy Up! is an unforgettable party!

The production was developed in partnership with GOSH Arts, patients and families and the Psychological Services Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

BGROUP & CHINA PLATE
Commissioned by the Rural Touring Dance Initiative,
Warwick Arts Centre and Dance East

The year is 1978, isolated from the mainland, Eric Valentine and Bernard Humphries have been stationed at Echo Point lighthouse, somewhere off the coast of England. The unlikely strangers have just begun to lay down foundations for this odd working relationship when the uncanny occurs.

Point of Echoes is a haunting tale of love, death and monsters, blending the tones of a Wes Anderson movie with the eerie dread of The Twilight Zone.

Renowned international choreographer Ben Wright and musician and writer Stuart Warwick collaborate to bring you bgroup’s most intimate and theatrical production to date.

Following it’s creation on Studio Wayne McGregor’s 2017 FreeSpace Program and first UK Tour, Richard Chappell Dance presents At the end we begin. The company’s dynamic, compelling and first full length work uses T.S. Eliot’s classic series Four Quartets as a point of departure by representing each poem with four arresting and emotionally fuelled quartets of dance, named after each poem.

At the end we begin questions how time’s circular nature affects our understanding of ourselves and inhabits the derelict and sometimes turbulent landscape of Eliot’s poetry. At the end we begin takes four young individuals from a place of being lost to a state of empowerment and acceptance where they have found their own voice by journeying through Eliot’s text.

Whilst combining Chappell’s distinguishable blend of classical ballet, martial arts, improvisation and contact work with three other highly skilled performers, At the end we begin dives into each performer’s unique and diverse skills, such Vogueing and Breaking. With a rich palette of qualities, At the end we begin welcomes audiences into a tenacious and committed world of adrenaline, full-bodied chaos, personal sensitivity and delicate patience.

With dramaturgy by Neus Gil Cortes, a freshly composed score of cello, piano and electronics by Samuel Halland costume design by Hannah Taylor, At the end we begin is Richard Chappell Dance’s most challenging and collaborative work to date.
