Brahms Song of Destiny
Walton Crown Imperial
Handel Coronation Anthems
The memorable splendour of coronations is largely due to the music. Imagine going back to 1727, and the overwhelming impact of hearing “Zadok the Priest” for the very first time. Or being in Westminster Abbey in 1937 (or 1953, or 2023), and being enveloped by the tsunamni that is Walton’s "Crown Imperial”. We can’t promise an abbey setting. We can’t even offer Wheatley St Mary’s (due to its temporary closure, we’ll be at St Mary’s, Great Milton). But we are offering those incredible works, complemented by the sublime balm of Brahms’ “Song of Destiny”: fifteen minutes of sheer musical ecstasy.
This is a concert in aid of Dementia Oxfordshire
