Oxford’s new-writing night: watch a rehearsed reading of a brand new play, curated by John Retallack.

Each script is brought to life by a cast of professional actors.

New writing is precarious in the current climate, and we are thrilled to support emerging artists with staged play readings. Join us for regular nights of great theatre, by outstanding up-and-coming playwrights. We can’t wait.

November’s play: MARIUPOL by Katia Haddad
Spanning over 30 years of Russian-Ukrainian relations, the story of star-crossed lovers, Steve Bondarenko and Galina Luchina, highlights the transience of life; the timing fundamental to all our fates; and how war is the most unnatural state of humanity. MARIUPOL is a play about love, loss and hope.

MARIUPOL: in the darkness of war, only love can bring hope.

Katia Haddad is a Russian-born British writer, also known as Katia Perova. She has been a member of the Oxford Playwriting Course since 2022. MARIUPOL is her debut play.

Performed by Nathalie Barclay and Ollie Gomm.
