Mandala Young Company’s production of ‘Paradise Lost’ by Erin Shields, is a witty, feminist portrayal of John Milton’s epic poem about the cosmic battle between good and evil, Satan’s revenge and the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden.

This is an ultra-contemporary new drama, a commentary on society today, that is fiercely engaging, irreverently funny and deeply moving.

Satan is explored through a female lens, reflecting our current time in which women everywhere are speaking truth to power and the young people in Mandala Young Company, being part of this movement to reimagine humanity’s fall from ‘grace’ in a new light and the need for women to be empowered.

The last few years has seen so many examples of the violation of women’s rights, in Iran, in Afghanistan and in the West in relation to sexual and domestic abuse. Mandala Young Company’s production stands up to this endless cycle of patriarchy and dominance over women. The cast of ethnically diverse and white working-class young people are bringing a refreshing perspective to what is happening today with a frame of reference that is both local and global.
