Course description:

Stuck for sketchbook ideas? Feeling the fear of the empty page? In this workshop we’ll work with new ways to unlock your creative instincts, collect inspiration and experiment with ideas – all in the pages of your sketchbook. At the end of the session you’ll have a new set of tricks and tools so you can continue developing your artistic practice at home and out in the world!

Tutor: Julia Thaxton

OVADA resident artist Julia Thaxton works with abstract painting, drawing, and silk prints to explore themes including immersion, the unconscious mind, and flow states. Julia teaches drawing classes in Oxford at Every Body Studio and the Jam Factory.

Materials required to take part in this course:

Please bring along your own drawing tools and of course, your sketchbook! We will have A5 sketchbooks available to purchase on the day for £4. Alternatively, you might consider supporting our current Archie Education Bursary fundraising project, by purchasing a one of a kind sketchbook designed by an artist…

Our Archie Education Bursary will allow us to broaden the range of people able to access our education programme. Over 50 artists have decorated the covers of sketchbooks with their artwork and these one of a kind sketchbooks will be on display and available to purchase at OVADA as part of the exhibition un/re/dis/cover from 7 to 21 May, during Oxfordshire Artweeks. These sketchbooks have been left blank on the inside, ready to be filled with creative inspiration.

Kitchen facilities:

We have basic kitchen facilities with cups, plates, kettle, water, and complimentary coffee, teabags, and milk available. There is a shop and café within a ten minute walk from OVADA but we do have a fridge available that you are welcome to store your lunch in if you so wish.

Parking:

Our carpark is reserved for private hire and as such, unfortunately, it is not open to OVADA visitors. For exceptional circumstances eg; mobility issues, we will do our best to accommodate access to parking. Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss access to parking by emailing engagement@ovada.org.uk.

We are however very close to the train station and the city centre shopping area. Please see links below with further information about nearby parking facilities:
