When Britain was plunged into lockdown in March, landscape artist Elaine Kazimierczuk turned to social media to find inspiration for her work.
Spring is normally a busy time for Elaine, who is renowned for colourful abstract landscapes of wildflower meadows. Suddenly unable to get out into nature, Elaine turned to Twitter and Instagram for help. She invited members of the public to send her photos of their own wildflower hotspots, using the hashtag #paintmymeadow.
Elaine received a huge variety of photographs from around the UK and the world, and she spent the summer creating a series of work based on her favourite images from those submitted. Each painting has its own story which is told in the colourful exhibition catalogue.
“I was overwhelmed by the response and the beautiful images I received from members of the public, including from some committed botanists and conservationists.
“It has enabled me to make a series of paintings of some of the most glorious meadows. The entire project has been a joy and I hope that comes across in the paintings.”
The Paint My Meadow exhibition, presented in collaboration with art gallery Gala Fine Art, will be held at Magdalen Road Studios in December. Careful attention will be paid to Covid-19 arrangements to enable visitors to attend in safety.
