MASAYA: The Power of the Female Collective
Part of the Oxford International Women's Day Festival

Inauguration Event on International Women's Day
Sunday 8th March, 4 - 6pm
Boiler Room Gallery at The Jam Factory
Free to attend.

What does the female collective look like? This photography exhibition presents MASAYA, a community project to empower women survivors of sexual violence by exploring this question.

The exhibition showcases work done by women and girls in a series of workshops across Oxfordshire in collaboration with the organisations supporting women such as OSARCC (Oxfordshire Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre) and YWMP (Young Women's Music Project).

MASAYA organises 3 types of workshops (vocal, mask and body sculpture) to explore the following questions:

What does it mean to be a woman in today's society?
What is our individual and collective vision for the future?
What power can be drawn from standing together as a collective?

The result is a powerful collection of images and sounds that give a face, voice and movement to the female collective.

AGENDA:

Live performance
Local artists will bring the masks made by participants to life and improvise dance based on the body sculpture created during the workshops, accompanied by a live performance of the song composed during the vocal workshops.

Q&A
Speak to the artists involved in the project.

The first 20 tickets booked will receive a free MASAYA T-shirt, book now on: https://oiwf.org/events/2020/exhibition/...
