Gabrieli Consort

Gabrieli are world renowned interpreters of great vocal and instrumental repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day. Paul McCreesh brings this moving sequence from their latest CD which explores some of the vast 20th Century secular English choral repertoire.

Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, Howells, Britten, Warlock, Grainger and their contemporary successors James MacMillan and Jonathan Dove have all set gems of English pastoral verse, which will be heard in a continuous sequence.

At their heart is the complex relationship between man and nature, the bitter-sweetness of a radiant and beautiful dawn creating the same unbearable sadness of a ravishing song, both with intimations of sublimity and mortality.
