Venue, Timing and Cost

Venue:
Studio B, Hornton, Oxfordshire
Date(s):
Saturday, 8 June 2019
Timing:
10am to 4pm
Cost:
£65.00 including lunch and refreshments

Donald MacLellan is an experienced expert and teacher who will guide you through some of the techniques that have made him into one of the country's acclaimed portrait photographers.
In this day-long session, you will learn more about portrait composition and lighting styles and options. You will be working in manual exposure mode for total control. You will also get to try out usage of Adobe Bridge photo-editing software – and be introduced to other free software packages – via live image manipulation.
The day will begin with a talk on portrait photography by Donald and an informal discussion to understand your needs and experience. The first practical session will follow – outside in the garden (weather permitting) with a debrief.
After a break for a light buffet lunch, the day will continue with group sessions in the studio, fully equipped with a lighting set-up that you could emulate at home, followed by another debrief. You will learn from each other as the session progresses.
Every participant will leave with a better understanding of various lighting techniques, sources and composition and a better grasp of working with RAW images, including downloading and basic photo manipulation and JPEG and TIFF conversion. You will know all the basics to allow you to take your own family and friend portraits in future!
Please make sure you bring your own digital camera on the day : it needs to be an DSLR camera that can be operated manually and/or has a manual override. You also need to bring your own SD card and a USB stick. A tripod may be helpful but not vital, as Donald will make his Nikon camera with tripod available for use.
Note: This workshop is not suited to photography beginners as it will assume basic knowledge and experience of how to use a digital camera and of technical terms.
