Freedom From Torture

“LOST AND FOUND” : a musical tale of journeys across the world will be performed at Friends Meeting House, 43 St Giles, Oxford, OX1 3LW, on Saturday 9 March, 2019, 2.00 – 4.00 pm.

As part of 2019 Oxford International Women’s Festival, the Oxford Supporters Group of Freedom from Torture present four members of Freedom from Torture’s Write to Life creative writing group in their latest production, ‘Lost and Found’, depicting moments of significance in their journeys from ‘there to here’.

A combination of speech, song and recorded sound is performed by a cast from Iran, Cuba, Uganda and Burundi. All are survivors of torture, but these stories are not ones you’ve heard before. The themes of “Lost and Found” are love, unexpected friendship and above all, music - from the violin buried by order of the Ayatollahs, to the unexpected joy of the public piano at St Pancras Station.
“Lost and Found” is rooted in songs remembered from home, developed and intertwined in this production.

Also speaking at this event will be Jennifer Obaseki, lawyer specialising in human rights, who will talk about the special problems facing women refugees and migrants when they try to get to the safety of the UK.
