Oxford Gallery (1968-2001) is a story of pioneering women, and the intertwined worlds of artists and craftsmanship. It is also a story inextricably linked with the art of ceramics which catalysed its foundation; formed a key part of its exhibition programme and has left the most visible legacy both here in Oxford and throughout the UK. Its work in this field makes Oxford Ceramics Gallery (est. 2006) a fitting host for an exhibition marking the fiftieth anniversary of the original gallery’s founding. James Fordham and Rachel Ackland continue to welcome clients and supporters to their Walton Street gallery whose love for, and interest in, ceramics was first nurtured at Oxford Gallery.
