Open Mic poetry and song – bring yours on love, or to make us laugh (both at once is perfectly acceptable)
Raffle tickets for Peace Poetry prizes will be on sale.
This year is the centenary of the end of World War 1; and 11 November – Armistice Day – still represents peace in most of Western Europe, and in North America. To mark that occasion I have arranged an event, Peace Poetry, on 11 11 18 at 2.45. p.m. at Beckley, Oxford. A number of respected poets and musicians will be appearing, and I’ve asked each to produce a poem responding to a World War 1 poem, with a vision of what peace is – for sure it isn’t just ‘no war’. (To reach any goal, you need to know what it looks like.)
Donations, on 11 11, will be invited for Peace Direct, a brilliant charity working on the ground in conflict-ridden countries.
To put that event on will cost around £1000, including travel expenses for 2 poets coming from Europe, posters and programmes, and ads in 2 national journals.
To cover these costs I am inviting contributions and holding a raffle; prizes include a month’s gym membership, prizewinning poetry books, wine, meals for 2, and more. Tickets will be on sale at this free event; we look forward to seeing you.
