Discover how the artist Paul Nash became captivated by the beauty and mystery of the Wittenham Clumps, making them one of his most frequently painted subjects. This special walk, beginning with an illustrated talk, explores the wooded hills of the Clumps and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
September was the month when the Nash family visited the Wittenham Clumps on holidays before the First World War, so the landscape will look much as it did when discovered by Paul Nash and his artist brother, John.

Christopher Baines runs the Paul Nash and the Wittenham Clumps website with artist Anna Dillon. He has given talks about Paul Nash at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and has been interviewed about Nash for the BBC television programmes ‘Paul Nash: The Ghosts of War’ and ‘Countryfile’.

10am, Saturday 8 September, St Agatha’s Church, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, OX10 0RU. The event lasts around two and a half hours.

This walk is also taking place on Saturday 1 September.

Sorry - this event is now sold out.
