100 years on from the Russian Revolution, Philip Ross Bullock leads a study day exploring Russian song, both its general history and in relation to the Revolution. A fascinating opportunity for those who wish to learn more about this rich musical tradition.

11.30am - 12.15pm - Rebecca Mitchell explores the lives of composers, performers and music-lovers in the decades running up to the collapse of the Russian Empire.

2.45pm - 3.30pm - Pauline Fairclough examines the dramatic impact of the October Revolution on music-making in Soviet Russia.

4pm - 4.45pm - Philip Ross Bullock looks at the relationship between Russia’s two greatest song composers around the turn of the twentieth century.
