Krysia Osostowicz - violin
Daniel Tong - piano

Over a weekend of concerts and study events, two of our most highly respected chamber musicians present a Beethoven cycle with a difference.

Inspired by their close collaboration and experience of playing Beethoven's sonatas, Krysia Osostowicz and Daniel Tong devised the Beethoven Plus! project in 2014, and over the past two years have played the complete cycle to great acclaim at Kings Place in London, St George’s Church in Bristol, Sheffield and Cambridge Universities and the Sound Festival in Aberdeen. They are currently recording the whole project for the SOMM label in a series of recitals.

Beethoven's sonatas are unquestionably the greatest body of repertoire for violin and piano: from the aesthetic perfection of the Spring, through the furious passion of the Kreutzer to the sublime lyricism of the final sonata, these works contain a world of emotional intensity and musical invention. To give the cycle an extra dimension, Osostowicz and Tong have commissioned ten composers to write short companion pieces inspired by Beethoven's sonatas, creating a fascinating musical conversation across two centuries, and shedding new light on Beethoven's own creations.
