Three-time Classical Brit winner Alison Balsom has cemented an international reputation as one of classical music'€™s great ambassadors, most recently receiving an OBE in the Queen'€™s 2016 Birthday Honours. Following the Symphony No. 44 of Haydn -€“ a jewel of the 'Sturm und Drang' genre -€“ Balsom performs the breezy Trumpet Concerto of Johann Nepomuk Hummel, the one-time protege of Mozart. Upon visiting Linz in 1783, Wolfgang wrote to this father '€˜as I have not a single symphony with me, I am writing a new one at breakneck speed'€™. The resulting '€˜Linz' symphony certainly shows no signs of haste throughout its blazing profusion of thematic ideas.
