Veronica Cordova is a Mexican artist, living and researching in Oxford. Her PhD work began with a contemplation of posters of missing women from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua in Mexico. At the beginning of her research in 2013 she found the names of seventeen missing women. In 2016 the Mexican Government publicly recognized that there are about 27,000 missing people.

During Cordova’s exhibition at the Glass Tank Gallery, she will present work motivated by the violence happening in contemporary Mexico.

One of her research questions has been: To what extent can I transform images of violence into performances that create empathy towards victims of violence and have a positive impact?

The aim of the exhibition is to map the transitions of her creative engagements during her research journey, seeking for effective ways to respond to violence in sculptures, reprographics, and documentation of performances.

Cordova will present two performance works during the private view: ‘Transitions: The bare life of a citizen” and ‘Yes, we have names, faces and bodies.’

The artist is available to give guided tours during the exhibition. No booking required.
