Multaka (meaning 'meeting point in Arabic) is based at the Pitt Rivers and HIstory of Science Museum.
The project’s key aim is to bring people and communities together, to strengthen understanding through inter-cultural dialogue through the mutual sharing of art, stories, culture and science in the museums.

The project is looking for a person with proven experience of working with young people (old teenagers / young adults 16 – 24yr) and with connections in Oxfordshire Youth Services and organisations. The person would join the MultakaOxford team on a freelance basis to lead, plan, shape and deliver a strand of work in which young people collaborate, lead, plan and also deliver events to share the diverse cultures that are part of Oxfordshire.

This work is for phase 1 for developing a young person’s strand of the project. There is a possibility of developing this into subsequent phases based on evaluation, feedback and impact.

The core of the Multaka project is the team of volunteers and staff that create the ‘meeting points’ in different ways. The young people could become volunteers and, together, start planning and delivering activities to share their knowledge, perspectives, experiences and views. Together you will plan and deliver a wide range of activities, events and workshops where we learn from each other and bring a diverse programme where everyone can engage, participate and recognise the commonalities we share. Experience of working with young people learning English is desirable.

The role will include
1. Networking and developing relationships with the services, organisations and groups to develop opportunities for young people to access and can get involved.
2. Creating a space that brings together young people that are interested in joining / developing activities as part of the Multaka project (in the museums and within the community). This involves
a. Preparing accessible inclusive workshops
b. Collaborating with the young people to create activities
c. Coordinating with partners, young people
d. Following policies and procedures with H&S, Risk assessments and GDPR)
3. Piloting (and evaluating) activities for the young people so they can experience design planning and delivering activities and
4. Supporting the young people to develop and deliver event (late Spring / early summer) where the young people can plan and deliver an event for the public / partners
5. Commissioning (through the university) artists, musicians, performers to work with the young people to inspire, develop skills and execute the ideas from the young people (you will have a budget and support from the Multaka team with all procurement needed)
6. Attendance at Multaka team meetings (once a month) and completion of monthly reports for the project manager
7. Leading on delivering events (being able to complete Risk Assessments, following GDPR procedures, completing event plans, communicating with project and museum staff, communicating and advertising activities with partners / public) develop social media use specifically to promote knowledge and comms for and about the young persons program
8. Evaluation of activities (this will include evaluating the strand of work and also the individual activities with the young people and the public) narrative, focus groups, data, video/audio, language consideration?
