Botley and North Hinksey Parish Council are seeking artists and craftspeople to shape the artistic landscape of a small housing development in Botley. We are seeking artists, wood workers and crafts people to work with us on creating bespoke seating, interactive sculptures, and a gateway feature for the public open spaces on the development. We are specifically looking for artistic features in wood but will consider proposals that make use of other natural materials such as stone, willow or earth works. We are keen to ensure the longevity of the works so we encourage works to be robust, durable and low maintenance.

The gateway feature is for a pedestrian entrance onto a public footpath (which could be an archway or creatively design wayfinding posts, whereas the seating/ benches will be located on the public open space else where on the development, where smaller interactive/ play sculptures can be incorporated. We are keen to develop this a s a creative, but functional trail with our chosen artist.

Themes and concepts for the final works should celebrate and explore nature, local flora and fauna, and a celebration of our natural world.

Our selected artist will work closely with local residents to inspire the proposals and capture the essence of the community. There is artistic scope to work on these themes and intentions for our chosen artist to purpose a series of works to commissioned by the parish council.

There is budget of £23,000 that should cover every aspect of the project including community engagement, design, fabrication, delivery, and installation.

We will review all submissions based on artistic merit, alignment with the project's theme, experience working with the specified materials, and potential for engaging the local community.

Expressions of interest should be submitted to Publicart@botleynorthhinksey-pc.gov.uk by Monday 4th March 2024 and should include the following;

-images of previous works
-an indicative proposal of what you offer this project (full proposals are not necessary at this stage)
-provide references from past commissioners

We look forward to receiving Expressions of Interest from artists who would like to work with us on this exciting project.
