‘Going Out, Coming Out’ is an iCreative project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and delivered by Film Oxford. This intergenerational project will look at the cultural, social, and personal experiences of the (African) Caribbean, LGBTQ+ and Over 50’s in Oxford in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s.

We are currently looking to appoint a freelance Lead Creative to oversee the development and delivery of the first of the three projects. This will be working with the (African) Caribbean Windrush community and will be a 12-day contract (10 days delivery, 2 days development) through October and November 2023. The Lead Creative will be supported by staff from iCreative/Film Oxford.

We are particularly interested in applications from people with previous experience of working with the (African) Caribbean community.

Working with the Museum of Oxford, ACKHI, and the Oxford History Centre and using a range of digital and traditional art forms, we will produce a short (up to 5 minutes) screen-based work that explores the cultural and social activities of the Windrush generation in Oxford. The finished product(s) will be exhibited in the Museum of Oxford, on-line and in community centres around Oxford.

Through the project we look to capture the untold stories and experiences of Oxford communities coming out of post-war austerity and going out to explore, enjoy and celebrate newfound freedoms and cultural expressions.
