About us

The Oxfordshire Museums Service operates the Oxfordshire Museum at Woodstock and the Museums Resource Centre near Standlake.

The Oxfordshire Museum is fully Accredited and welcomes more than 125,000 visitors a year. The Museum occupies a large 17th century house with 18th and 21st century extensions, housing temporary exhibitions, a cafe, reception and retail. The galleries display objects from the County's collections which tell the history and archaeology of Oxfordshire from the dinosaurs through Romans and Anglo-Saxons to the Victorians. The Museum's extensive gardens are popular with local people and visitors alike.

About the role

We are looking for an active, practical person to join our team as Site Supervisor to play a key role in maintaining an excellent experience for our visitors by ensuring that the Museum, its contents and the site are kept clean, well-presented and safe at all times.

About you

We need someone with recent experience of site management, buildings and grounds maintenance, who can monitor the work of external contractors and assist curatorial staff with exhibition installation and small practical tasks. The successful candidate will also play a key part in the site’s Health and Safety management system.

Experience of working in historic buildings would be an advantage, as would a proven interest in museums and heritage.

The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is an essential requirement of the role, as is being a confident user of Microsoft Office packages The successful candidate will ideally live within a 12-mile radius distance of Woodstock as they will be a dedicated key holder for the Museum and may be required to attend site in the event of an emergency call out. The role also involves some weekend and out of hours working.
