Christ Church was the first Oxford College with a designated art gallery. It houses one of the most important collections of Old Master paintings and drawings (mainly Italian art from the 14th – 18th centuries) in the country and was one of the first art museums open to the public. One of the Fellows of Christ Church acts as Curator of Pictures; the day-to-day running of the gallery is in the hands of a full-time Curator of the Picture Gallery. The other staff at Christ Church Picture Gallery are a Curatorial Assistant, a part-time PR Assistant and a team of Invigilators.

The College now invites applications for the part-time position of Head Invigilator / Front of House Manager from suitably experienced candidates.

Purpose of Job: Christ Church Picture Gallery is a famous and important art gallery within one of Oxford’s largest colleges. It is open to the public as well as being a source of academic research. The small gallery team fulfils a whole range of duties within the museum. The candidate must understand the role of the Picture Gallery as an important art gallery as well as its position within the college environment. The Head Invigilator’s primary role is to ensure the safety and security of the gallery and its visitors and to work with the team of invigilators to create a welcoming atmosphere.
