More about the Role:
The musician joins the project in the latter stages of rehearsals. Working with the Show MD, and an element of actor-musicianship within the cast, the musician plays each performance, and supports the Show MD ensuring the musical continuity of the production over the long run. Although bass will be the main instrument, there may be opportunities for other instruments to be used, and it would be interesting to hear what other instruments you play upon application.

More about the project:
The panto at Chipping Norton is an institution that has been growing for over 43 years, building from 4 shows a year to over 100, which last year reached an audience of almost 17,000 people. The formula for this success is a combination of the traditional and the original, combining the values and many of the routines and rituals from Victorian pantomime, with a set of rules that foster creativity and excellence.
This year’s Sleeping Beauty begins in the Tudor court of King Lenny – a world full of ruffs, courtly dancing and ten-bird roasts. Through a series of disastrous mistakes, Princess Rose finds herself sent to sleep, waking up 400 years later in the swinging sixties.
These include: No ‘celebs’; no pop songs; an original script every year; original music; all set and costumes designed and made from scratch rather than out of a dusty old store; and the bringing together a changing creative team of experienced, highly credited professionals.
The Chippy Panto has been listed in The Telegraph’s Top 5 UK Christmas shows for the last 7 years
‘Perfect Proper Panto’ Libby Purves, The Times
‘The perfect antidote to commercial panto’ – Telegraph

The audience experience:
For many people, the Chippy Panto is a ritual as much a part of their Christmas as carol singing or decorating the tree. People who once came as children themselves are now bringing their own. The experience we aim to achieve is one of making a fun, adventurous journey to a cosy, lamp-lit, beautiful auditorium in a little, (potentially) snowbound town and then experiencing a show whose production values are way beyond what they would expect. In recent years our sets have included a raked revolving set, a full-size ship and a massive snow blizzard.
