Film & Digital Media Project Worker

Film Oxford is a busy centre for film and digital media, committed to building a strong community of local filmmakers and digital creators through its ‘Learn, Network, Create, Exhibit’ programme. The centre provides a range of accessible training for all and particularly invests in developing projects with marginalised communities. Over the last 5 years Film Oxford has built a reputation for its ground breaking work with artists with disabilities as well as its work with young filmmakers and digital creatives. A strong partnership with the BFI through ‘Youth Academies’ and now European-funded ‘iCreative’ programme is offering unprecedented opportunities for a new emerging generation of young talent in the area. Film Oxford also supports a number of local network groups (Digital Youth, the Shadowlight Artists, Open Screen, Screenwriters and Poppadom Pictures), as well as offering production services for charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Film Oxford is looking for a filmmaker/digital media practitioner to deliver and develop projects with young people as well as help build our production base with external clients.

The job is part-time, averaging out at 3 days per week (22.5 hours), and would involve some flexibility on delivery with occasional weekend work

The successful applicant would support in the delivery of the youth iCreative programmes and BFI Academy over the next 12 months and support the development and management of new projects. This would involve liaising with partners to develop project ideas, fundraising for projects and delivering or managing those projects as appropriate. It would also involve working with Film Oxford Production to identify new clients and proactively help develop income-generating productions.

It is hoped that with increased project and production work Film Oxford will be able to extend this contract beyond 12 months

The successful candidate would be working with Geron Swann (Centre Development) and Gary Shenton (Production Development) and would be expected to attend management meetings (every 2 months) and executive meetings (every 2 weeks).

Person Specification

Would ideally suit a filmmaker/digital media practitioner who:
- has experience of working with and teaching young people
- is looking to develop skills in project development, project delivery and project management
- can communicate professionally with potential clients
- can work flexibly and independently and has good organisational skills
- is comfortable liaising with the local cultural sector and being proactive in their approach

Terms of Employment
Salary: £23,400 pro rata. Post offered 3 days per week or 0.6FTE (actual salary £14,040)
Tenure: 12 month contract (May 2017 – April 2018, with some flexibility)
Probationary period: 3 months
Hours: 22.5/week. Core days to be agreed on appointment. Occasional evening and weekend work required.

Holiday: 5.6 weeks pro rata (including public holidays)
