We are recruiting Young Artists to be part of Kick Arts - an innovative flexi-school model for 11-16 year olds who are school refusers or at risk of exclusion. Funded by the Heritage Lottery fund OYAP Trust is working in partnership with Pitt Rivers Museum to deliver a high-quality 15 week programme.

Using creativity and the irresistible qualities of the arts, the Kick Arts programme has been proven to improve young people’s attitudes to and relationships with learning. Artists with special talent and experience of working with disengaged young people lead and inspire learning through a variety of art forms, from young slam poets, to photographers, film makers, musicians, makers and visual artists.

The programme finds the learning style that best suits the needs of the individual and leads to the achievement of the Arts Award qualification at Entry Level 3, QCF levels 1 and 2. Participants are supported to lead their own learning and to pass their knowledge on to other young people, which improves their confidence and self-esteem. Kick Arts offers a flexible, phased approach to inspire, motivate and reintegrate disengaged learners into education.

We are looking for bright, kind, creative young people - aged 18-26 - who want to gain experience and insight into working with young people in museum & arts education setting.

We will provide training, specialist support, supervision, reflective practice and the opportunity to work alongside some inspiring Artists & Museum heritage specialists. You will also learn to do the arts awards. There will be a small contribution towards travel costs.

In exchange you will have a chance to share your skills and be part of a truly life-changing experience in which the arts, culture and human connectedness enable young people to explore their own creativity and find ways to express themselves. Due to the nature of the group and the need for continuity we ask that you must commit to attend every session.
