Artist needed for a Village sign, East Challow

We are keen to hear from artists who can see the creative opportunity in the village of East Challow. We are looking for experienced artists and crafts people to explore ideas and propose designs for a central focal feature for the village, and two smaller entrance signs for the roadside verges.

The brief for the artists is;
• To design and make a “Suffolk Style” village sign and two smaller features for the entrance verges.

• Create a unique and distinctive feature that is of high quality: work which is durable and easy to maintain and that integrates with the rural nature of the village.

• Explore artistic work that strengthens the personality and identity of the village, drawing in local natural history and story of the village for inspiration.

• To use the process of design and creation to help residents and community groups and find a voice to help shape their community through the arts and during this project we will encourage a local history project to emerge.

• Preferred materials; wood or metal but could incorporate other materials such as stone into aspects of the features

Artists’ Expression of Interest should include:
Expression of Interest should be submitted electronically to trevor.hayes@btinternet.com and Abigail.brown@southandvale.gov.uk entitled “Expression of Interest East Challow Village sign” by 10th January 2021 and should include;
• Examples of at least 6 previous projects you have work on
• An artistic statement in response to the brief and your interest in the project
• An indication of your approach and ideas to this opportunity
• Details of when/ how you intend deliver this project within the indicated budget and timescale.
• The name and contact details of at least 2 references
• An indication that you have public liability insurance.
