In Our Hands is musical journey through earth, water and our sense of place. Grace Williams’ Sea Sketches (1944) brings us to the centre of the elements, buffeting our senses with the uncontrollable intensity of earth’s energy; Butterworth’s On the Banks of Green Willow, Elgar’s Serenade and Britten’s folk song arrangements lead us peacefully to the water’s edge and the countryside where we take solace in nature’s apparent timelessness; while Toby Young’s setting of Tony Isaac’s In Our Hands (premiere) and Limpet Space Race’s Earth Flow (premiere) remind us of our power and responsibility to preserve these extraordinary experiences for generations to come.
