‘Barbara Hepworth: Finding Form’ celebrates the work of one of the country’s most celebrated sculptors. During the course of the 20th century Barbara Hepworth played a vital role in the development of British Modernism, leading to the creation of her most recognisable style.
This exhibition explores the development of Hepworth’s sculpture from the 1930s to the 1960s and demonstrates Hepworth’s lifelong preoccupation with form. Beginning with the human body and moving from the figurative into the abstracted, the exhibition looks at how Hepworth chose to interpret the forms around her in her sculptures. A selection of lesser known oil on board works, showing Hepworth’s experimentation with geometric shapes and colour during the 1940s, are also on display.
