Johannes von Stumm works mainly in stone, metal and glass, fusing these materials together to create symbols of a finely balanced and fragile unity. Now he is adding limestone to his palette. He also explores further avenues to create ‘Figures of Light’.
He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich/ Germany and has exhibited in London, Oxford, Bath, Newbury, Munich, Frankfurt (Germany), Gent (Belgium), Kanazawa (Japan), New York and many other places. He has completed commissions for many European companies and collectors.
Initiated by Vale of White Horse District Council the sculpture 'Couple holding hands' 240 x 240 x 120 cm, bronze, was installed in 2003 in Grove near Wantage .
In Newbury on the Robin Hood roundabout you can see the sculpture 'Couple in Conversation', five meters high made out of mild steel.
For the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge he is creating a seven feet high stainless steel sculpture called ‘Mother and Child’ which will be installed in front of the Museum from April 2009 to January 2010.
In May 2009 his work is shown in a one – man exhibition at the ‘Stiftung fuer Konkrete Kunst’ in Freiburg, Germany.
After his one man show in 2008 at Robert Bowman Modern, 34 Duke Street, London SW1 6DF, the gallery offered him another show in May 2010.
