Described as ““totally different, crazy and triumphant with a peculiar vitality” by BBC Radio, they create a rich, colourful and expressive sound and their vibrant virtuosity, and zany offbeat humour, makes for an unforgettable performance.

The Oxford Concert Party are a lively and highly entertaining group of six first-rate musicians with a unique repertoire which ranges from Vivaldi to Piazzolla, via Argentinian Tango, Jewish Klezmer, French café music, and music from Eastern Europe, Ireland and Scotland. Flamenco Express in performance

This is the 6th year of our highly successful Spanish Nights, when professional Flamenco dance companies from Spain and the UK perform in the intimate setting of Oxfordshire's only Spanish Flamenco club. These shows always sell out as the intimate venue is perfect for seeing powerful and passionate Flamenco, so we recommend buying your tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Our next Spanish Night on Saturday 11 June is a very exciting one as it features the legendary company "Flamenco Express" as part of their 20th anniversary UK tour. Joining them especially for this show is the award winning dancer Alejandro Molinero (Madrid) star of many of Spain's top dance groups including Ballet National de Espana, Compañia Javier Latorre and Concha Jareño. It´s not very often that a Flamenco dancer of this magnitude comes to dance in Oxfordshire! Joining him on stage are the driving force behind Flamenco Express, dancer La Joaquina and guitarist Chris Clavo. Also joining them for their 20th anniversary tour is singer Antonio el Pola. It is almost easier to list the top Flamenco groups he has not performed with as his CV reads like a who's who of the Flamenco world, including Paco de Lucia, Juana Amaya and Concha Vargas.

"Flamenco Express" will perform a theatre length show in two halves (40 - 45 minutes each half) with a 30 minute interval.

Our Spanish Nights are held in The Millers Bar (the private performance bar on the 1st floor) at The Mill Arts Centre).
Please note that a maximum of 65 tickets only will be available for this show.
Doors open at 7.30pm and the first show begins at 8.00pm.
After the final show you are welcome to stay till 10.15pm.

Tickets: £14.50 (available from The Mill Arts Centre box office in person, over the phone or via the website)
Ticket price include complimentary Spanish bar snacks on the tables and a glass of sangria.

The room is laid out cabaret style (tables and chairs of various sizes from tables for 2 to a table for 12) and is very friendly, welcoming and social.
Most tables seat between 6 - 10 people so expect to share a table for these nights, Spanish style.

TABLE RESERVATIONS
If you wish to pre-reserve a table for the show, please read the following information:
We have 2 tables for 2 people, 2 tables for 4 people, 1 table for 6 people and 1 table for 12 people which can be reserved in advance.
Apart from these tables no other tables are available to reserve and all other seating is Spanish style, at shared tables.

Henry Roche is the great-great-grandson of the composer-pianist Ignaz Moscheles. Born in Beaconsfield in 1945, educated at St. Paul's School and at Magdalene College Cambridge (M.A. Classics). He studied piano with David Parkhouse at the Royal College of Music and joined The Royal Ballet in 1977 and was Head of Music Staff from 1991 until retiring in 2010, performing many solos and concertos by Chopin, Ravel, Henze, Ligeti etc. (including Frank Martin’s Harpsichord Concerto). Henry has broadcast and written articles on Moscheles, and organised and performed in several concerts of his music both in London and abroad. He has recently researched extensively on Moscheles’ letters and manuscripts, and contributed to Mark Kroll’s new biographical study which is due for publication this year. For the past 5 years, Henry has organised a Gala in London of music and ballet for the Ghana charity Ashanti Development, which has specialised in including new choreography by young dancers.

Swanfest 2016, headline Martyn Joseph, plus Acousticana, Under the Wychwood, Redwing, Noah’s Cape, James Bell & Friends, Mad Larry’s Band & The Ponderosa.

Saturday July 16th, doors open 1.00 pm, music from 1.45 pm.

Martyn Joseph is a powerful singer and songwriter gifted with the rare ability to speak to the soul with his expressive and poignant lyrics. With a career spanning 30 years, 32 albums, over a half a million record sales and thousands of live performances, the versatility of his music touches genres of folk, rock, soul, folk funk and Americana, yet somehow all these labels cannot define the spirit of his music.

Compared to Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews, he has created his own style and reputation as a mesmerising live performer and stands in his own right, built on a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live music experience of their lives. A unique talent driven by passion, social awareness and love for his trade, his music manages to empower and speak for the many. He's a jaw dropping guitar player who has developed a unique percussive style, teamed up with a powerful show stopping voice, and has been called “The Welsh Springsteen”

Martyn was awarded Best Male Artist at the 2004 BBC Welsh Music Awards and in 2012 his song “There’s Always Maybe” won the best folk song category in the World Independent Music Awards. In addition to his 5 top 50 UK hits, the importance of his work has been recognised by programmes such as BBC 2’s prime time series on Singer/Songwriters. Social justice has an essential presence throughout his music, which has been recognised with various humanitarian awards and plaudits.

“Stunning, heartfelt music”

Bob Harris BBC Radio 2,

"Intelligent and enlightened songs are both energising and provocative…from subtle tenderness to growly indignation. A Welsh national treasure” MOJO

“A superb album, open yet textured; complex yet immediately listenable: insightful and often hard hitting"” R2 - 5 stars

“heartfelt and ultimately optimistic songs” Songlines

“One of the most charismatic and electrifying performers in Britain today…tough and passionate”
