Venue, Timing and Cost
Flourish Oxford is excited about our upcoming Indian block printing workshop at the Old Fire Station, Oxford. Participants will learn about the rich history and cultural significance of this traditional art form. They will also be guided through the process of creating their own beautiful printed designs using hand-carved wooden blocks.
The traditional process of hand block printing on textiles, with rich natural colors, has been practiced in Rajasthan for around 500 years. Block printing was introduced to the Jaipur region of Rajasthan by the Chhipa community.
"I’m a Certified Tutor of the Indian Block Print Company. They work closely with local artists and have helped develop a new carving studio in rural Rajasthan." - Flourish Oxford
The Jaipur collection of responsibly sourced hand-carved wooden blocks, tends to be more traditional tile and border prints. We’ll use these to create beautiful repeat prints while exploring the use of colour to enhance your finished piece. We’ll be printing on cushions and organic cotton scarves to make beautiful items for yourself or as a beautiful gift. This is a slightly more advanced version of the introductory course, but it’s still very achievable with a little practice.
“I’d never done block printing before and wasn’t sure what to expect. It was a wonderfully creative but simple process – loads of blocks to choose from and a gorgeous range of coloured inks. We printed bags, cards, tea towels – such a lovely session. Highly recommended!”
By participating in this workshop, participants will not only develop new artistic skills but also experience the therapeutic benefits of creativity and self-expression. At Flourish Oxford, we truly believe that engaging in creative activities like Indian block printing has a positive impact on overall well-being by fostering a sense of accomplishment, connection, and joy. We look forward to welcoming you to this enriching workshop!
