‘This House Believes’ is a new mulitgenre musical by Theo Sergiou.

A young man from Tottenham finds himself amongst the aspirational political set of privileged students at Oxford University, and becomes embroiled within the Oxford Union debating society. As Francis gets sucked into the Union, he gets drawn further away from his roots and the community that made him.

Then, a fateful event causes him to re-examine his whole world.

The musical is a story about class, identity, ambition and betrayal, and uses pop, rap and afro beats to meditate on these issues. It asks, how far would you go to belong?

The script is a reflection of the creator’s own personal experiences, and the original score is being devised by young creatives from Oxford and London (which are also to the locations where we are hoping to hold full runs after the Offbeat debut!).

We are coming to Offbeat with a workshopped production and are collaborating with The Change Foundation, with the hope to circulate the material we create amongst those within the disadvantaged communities we are trying to represent. Thus, we’d love to receive feedback after the performance to improve the material!
