Sculptor Oscar Nemon travelled to the UK as a Jewish refugee from Nazi Europe during the 1930s, having sculpted Sigmund Freud from life in Vienna, and spent a number of years sculpting and exhibiting in Brussels. In England after the second world war, Nemon went on to sculpt Winston Churchill amongst other distinguished sitters. Nemon's Churchills are in the Members' Lobby of the House of Commons, and many other locations, including the Rose Garden at Blenheim. Nemon first came to Boars Hill in 1942, and lived here until his death in 1985. Visits include a guided tour of his Studio Museum, currently focusing on his work of the 1940s. There is also an explanation of how he made his sculptures, including tools, sketches, and maquettes. Visitors can then have tea and cake either in the wild garden surrounding the Studio Museum, or on comfortable sofas in the Archive, while they take in the artworks not currently within the exhibition at their own pace. There is parking on site, and children are warmly welcomed, as are well behaved dogs on leads. Perfect to combine with an afternoon walk on Boars Hill. Please visit our website www.oscarnemon.org.uk for more details and photos. Visitors stay on average an hour and a half to two hours.
