Roman Coin Hoard Day @ Bicester Library
10am to 3:30 pm, Saturday 3rd December

The Roman Coin Hoard Day at Bicester Library launches the exhibition of the Stoke Lyne Roman coin hoard in the library. The hoard dates to the late 3rd century and has never been displayed before. It is the largest hoard in the Oxfordshire Museums Service collection. The exhibition is an opportunity to see the hoard, find out how a museum acquires, catalogues and cares for such hoards.

The hoard will be on display at Bicester Library from Saturday 3rd December until the 3rd March.

The Roman Coin Hoard Day will have activities for families and adults, including;
• from 11am to 1pm making Roman helmets
• from 11am a bite-sized 10-minute lecture on Roman coin hoarding on the hour until 3pm
• have a closer look and handle Roman artefacts
• Roman colouring activities
• Roman coin jigsaw
• Do you find objects in your garden or through metal detecting? Bring them along to show Dr. Edward Caswell (Finds Liaison Officer) to find out more about them. He’ll look at anything you think has been made or shaped by a person and has mud on it!
• Meet the Oxfordshire Museums Service Archaeology Team and ask us questions about the archaeology collection.
