Mono-printing or mono-type is a form or printmaking from which each print is unique and unrepeatable. It is a playful, direct and exciting way of printing, and allows for a broad range of texture, shape and mark-making.

Mono-prints are created using an un-cut plate, onto which the ink is rolled, and then manipulated through various techniques to create an image. Common techniques include drawing into the ink, wiping areas away, and laying paper stencils down to mask areas out.
The image is then printed onto paper, and the process can be repeated to build up layers and depth to the print.

This course provides an experimental introduction to all of these techniques, as well as an understanding of colour and ink transparency through multi-layered printing.
This course enables students to become probationary members of the workshop to access facilities, with view to becoming a permanent member.

Lizzie Wheeler is an Oxford based printmaker and a technician at
Oxford Printmakers.
