Course description: This two day course is intended to excite and inspire artists by introducing fun and experimental ways of exploring the figure in a spatial setting. Responding to a seated clothed model the tutor will take students through a journey from sketching (using pencils, drawing with oil paint) into a finished painted study.
On day one the tutor will help students find their own voice through line, composition and colour work. Quick, multi media responses will lead onto longer more detailed studies with the focus on varied mark making, playing with scale and paint application. On the second day a composition based on these drawings will be developed and expanded into a more fully realised painting, keeping many of the drawn elements as integral to the work. The tutor will guide students in how to allow the imagination and automatic processes to play a part in the finished piece.
Level of experience required to take part: This course is accessible for artists at any stage of their development who want to explore varied techniques or who wish to refresh ways of working with oils. No previous experience with oil paint is necessary.
