Course description: Join intersectional feminist, artist and activist, Alice Brookes, for a five week course of creative discovery and making, through disruptive textiles. Throughout history, stitching has been used as a medium for protest and rebellion; to convey slogans and poignant messages. Now, more than ever, we need a space to express our frustration with the world’s injustices.
Reflecting on the work of artists who have pushed ‘textiles’ outside the traditional realm, this course will explore textiles through the lens of politically motivated activism, to facilitate dialogue on a chosen subject that has a personal significance for individual participants; whether that’s women’s rights, the current political situation, war, climate change or anything that stirs a passion. This dialogue will aim to inspire and ignite creativity and inform a creative textile project that will be developed throughout the course.
Level of experience required to take part: Beginners to intermediate
