A recent landscape photograph taken of the mirror in a display case. A hand held mirror with cast openwork handle, rod bent upon itself, bulbous at the bottom and at the top each end of the rod flaring out in opposite directions and clamping the disc. The mirrored section is a copper alloy disc with a swirling pattern of various parts on the reverse.

For our next Meet at the Museum, our Finds Liaison Officer, Dr Edward Caswell will be talking about the Portable Antiquities Scheme. He will take you through some examples of the fantastic treasures, and their stories, now cared for by the Oxfordshire Museum Service. Come on down to see what classes as “treasure”, what exciting objects have been found in Oxfordshire and how these precious items are preserved for the benefit of everyone. Join in this free casual session, no booking required.
