Part of Offbeat Festival 2022

Join a guided audio tour of a distant city, that cannot be named, where nothing seems to make sense. Its people are silenced and its landscape is disappearing.

Threatened with exile, and propelled by a need to tell the city’s story before it is forever forgotten, a resident records the stories behind his favourite places.

These stories will be shared with you on an alternative guided tour that takes place within the streets of Oxford, but transports you to the streets of his hometown. Along the way, you will stop at various locations around Oxford that share points of commonality with his story.

This is not the guided city tour you might expect, one of historical landmarks and holy sites; instead, the stops on this tour explore the hidden and seemingly insignificant areas and sites of memory that become so precious when the threat of exile and erasure hangs overhead.

Join us for an emotional, cartographic resistance piece which actively questions who has the right to claim the history of places and objects and how we can imaginatively salvage shrinking landscapes.

All you need to bring are comfortable shoes and an open imagination…

Additional Information:

The entire experience will be outdoor and consist of a guided tour through Oxford – the start & finish point will be Oxford Playhouse.

You will be required to wear headphones throughout the walk. Headphones are sanitised before each use.

You’ll just need comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for any potential wet weather.
