Turquoise & white spherical pot, with smoke effects

I will be displaying my work as part of the Henley Arts Trail in my studio- the Yellow Shed Pottery.

My work focuses on Moon Jars, spherical pots inspired by the iconic Korean Moon Jar. I handbuild the jars using coils of clay which I lay into moulds to give support as the clay dries and strengthens. I glaze the pots using a natural sponge and sometimes a silicon pasty brush, deliberately leaving areas free of glaze. I layer the glazes eg white, turquoise, green, sometimes pinks and mauves. After glaze firing I smoke fire the Moon jars to bring out the crackle in the glazes and to give smoke tones to the naked areas of clay.

The sizes range from a7cm diameter to 34cm diameter. I have 3 main ranges - Swirling Water (whites and blues), Cherry Blossom (white, turquoise, green & pinks) and Wisteria (white, turquoise, green and mauves).

I will also be demonstrating my making techniques and opening the smoke bin post firing.
