Class description:

Endless Threads Club

“The most sustainable garment is the one already in your wardrobe” – Orsola de Castro @orsoladecastro
Got clothes that need TLC or a revamp? Snatch them from the jaws of disrepair and joyless ennui at Endless Threads Club with textile artist and sculptor Rosie McLean @rosie.boat.
Together we will figure out ways to creatively repair, embellish and / or alter your old clothing creating personalised wearable artworks in a workshop combining DIY ethics, sustainability and creative expression.
No sewing experience required, just an interest in clothing, an open mind and a willingness to experiment.
Just a few of the things we aim to cover…
Visible and invisible mending
Drawing : clothing as a canvas
Dying and bleaching
Size and shape alteration
Appliqué
Embroidery
Replacing linings
Embellishment
Recommendations: books, online tutorials, podcasts, sustainable fabric suppliers
Pictured: 3 of Cups Patch by @little_sew_and_sow. Clown Patch by @pxssy_tattie. Rosie’s shoes.
Class tutor: Rosie McLean

Materials required to take part in this course: Please bring along whichever piece of clothing you would like to upcycle. All other materials and equipment needed to repair, embellish and alter your clothing will be free of charge for this first taster session, and in subsequent classes will be charged at extremely affordable rates.

Parking: Unfortunately we can only offer use of the car park to participants if they have mobility issues, as we cannot guarantee a parking space (due to unauthorised parking). If you have mobility issues and would like a parking space, please get in touch in good time to discuss via engagement@ovada.org.uk and we will do our best to accommodate.

We are however very close to the train station and the city centre shopping area. Please see links below with further information about nearby parking facilities:

Important things to note before booking:

Due to structural challenges with our building, classes are normally held in our first floor education room, which unfortunately, is currently accessible via stairs only. If this would prevent you from attending, please contact us via engagement@ovada.org.uk, in advance, so that we can discuss individual requirements and we will do our best to accommodate.
This course requires minimum bookings to run. Should the course become unviable, participants will be notified 2 days before start time and bookings refunded.
If, for any reason, due to Covid, we are unable to run this course in person, we will try our best to continue to deliver the course using an online format.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund or credit for courses that go ahead so please make sure you can take part before booking.
