Josh Rose is an Artist and Maker based in Oxford, working across disciplines under the practice name ‘Love Your Plane’.
Rose’s work investigates the value of surface design through the combined techniques of printmaking (particularly wood relief works) and woodwork.
This is a series of works on paper developed from playful observations of placemaking, creating literal representations through wood relief printing.
This ongoing print series began a year ago in lockdown 2020. The work is informed by both a sense of place and locality, explored and developed through the process of engagement with his physical environment.
In this collection, Rose presents a variety of wood types, captured and delivered with a strong and visually graphic identity. These works celebrate and capture the unique characteristics of wood and its setting. Valuing its grain variation, shape, and species type.
The process is driven by selecting and interpreting of both found materials and their arrangements that are often discarded or temporary, which help generate a design language that is informal and varied.
The wood types are found on walks in woodlands and in the workshop, they are ‘off cuts’ of an everyday environment.
