Legendary Cuban pianist and African kora master join forces for a special collaboration
Join us for an evening of joyful, mesmerising, transporting music from the sparkling clear sounds of piano and kora. Virtuoso musicians with absolute mastery and control of their instruments, intuitively exploring together the meeting points of their Cuban, Senegalese and Venezuelan heritages drawing on jazz, minimalism and folk. Expect playful, interweaving melodies and minimalist shifting textures that will take you from quiet contemplation to unbounded joy.

Cuban pianist Omar Sosa is one the leading jazz pianists of his generation. Grammy-nominated musician, composer and bandleader, Sosa has released more than 30 albums across his glittering career. Composer and kora virtuoso Seckou Keita, from Casamance in Senegal, is a fearless artist at the top of his game. His stunning collaboration with harpist Catrin Finch and his recent BBC Radio 2 Folk Award as Folk Musician of the Year underline his extraordinary versatility and critical reputation.

Their debut album Transparent Water (2017) was hailed as ‘beautiful, rhapsodic… spiritual’ (Songlines) and ‘mesmerising, evocative and sophisticated’ (World Music Central). Sosa and Keita’s second album SUBA is a hymn to hope, to a new dawn of kindness and real change in a post-pandemic world, a visceral reiteration of humanity’s perennial prayer for peace and unity. Joining them is inimitable Venezuelan percussionist Gustavo Ovalles.
