Join us for the launch of our second online exhibition ORNITHOLOGIE on Friday 5th of March!

This Friday at 6.15pm GMT Magdalen Road Studios will be launching online show ORNITHOLOGIE on our website, magdalenroadstudios.com. The exhibition is completely free to view and runs between the 5th and 26th of March 2021.

ORNITHOLOGIE is an online collaborative exhibition by artists Sonia Boué and Madi Acharya-Baskerville who share adjacent studios spaces at Magdalen Road Studios, Oxford. It is a unique show where the artists’ collaboration can be viewed as ‘pairings’; a series of encounters where the works appear to be in direct conversation with each other in unexpected and enquiring ways, exploring themes of ecology and pandemic responses.

Both Sonia and Madi use objects and share a reference to nature in their work. Sonia Boué has recently made photocollages with intricate structure of branches as a backdrop. Sometimes she appears intertwined with them as if she is part of their structure but also separate from them. For Madi Acharya-Baskerville, branch-like structures form part of her sculptural works, which reference the human body and sometimes take on an animal-like presence. Textiles such as embroidered fabrics handed down from her family are also incorporated into these works creating a more personal connection.

Additionally, on Thursday the 25th of March the artists will be going live on Instagram! Join them over on @MagdalenArts Instagram at 6.15pm GMT for a live discussion and Q&A session.
