Textile Arts Club for Kids and Teens

Starts Tuesday, September 22nd!

Our Textile Arts Club is a tight-knit community of young creatives learning skills and creating projects with a focus on weaving, but drawing upon all the textile arts to broaden their knowledge and understanding of this fun and engaging discipline.

Over a school term of 10 weeks children in school years 3 - 6 and teens in school years 7+ are welcome to join us for 10 x 1 hour sessions after school or on Saturdays to further develop their Textile Art skills.

Skill Level: Beginner

Our Textile Arts Club is designed to build a child's confidence in working with materials by understanding the basics of weaving. The weekly workshops are open to boys and girls who enjoy working with their hands, like to explore materials and enjoy creative projects in school or at home.

Each child will receive their very own Rainbow Starter Weaving Kit to work on for the duration of the term, in their choice of colour. They will be given a variety of projects to work on (both on and off loom) and will progress at their own speed over the course of the 10 weeks to complete their projects. As we are working in small groups of 6 children, we can tailor the projects to the skill level of each child.

Over the course of the term, children will learn a multitude of techniques from contemporary and classic weaving to create wall-hangings, coasters, lavender sachets, pouches and bracelets. They will explore different materials, discuss the effects of textiles on the environment and learn about design and how the Textile Arts plays an important role in society.

Older children (years 7+) will be given small projects to work through at their own pace and much attention will be paid to their personal interests and goals for the club. This may include working with other equipment in the studio (sewing machine, table looms etc) under strict supervision.

Our aim for the children is for them to have fun, learn a new craft skill, build awareness of textiles and develop their creativity in a supportive environment. This is especially important post lockdown as children search for ways of finding balance in their lives.

What’s included:

1 hour of tuition each week (total 10 weeks)
1 of our new Rainbow frame looms and Weaving Tools for use during the weekly workshops and to take home afterwards
All yarns and materials
Guaranteed fibre fun in a safe, relaxed environment!

* Our after school club will be begin in September following current government guidelines at the time. Children will work in small groups in our newly adapted studio space to accommodate social distancing and all efforts will be made to follow a traditional school setting in these new circumstances.
