Find yourself right in the middle of an immersive world, from ancient rite to banging club.

What has changed in 4,000 years of dance culture?

It’s May Day 1988, the Second Summer of Love. Martin Green (fearless inventor and accordion player in esteemed folk trio Lau) is nine years old and morris dancing at dawn while the ravers are still going in the next field.

What’s the difference? What’s the same?

Martin Green leads us through a mind-altering, bespoke audience experience that asks if trance state is actually part of the culture of these islands - have we forgotten it? Or denied it? Pass through The Portal and you will become part of this beautiful and exhilarating world of music, movement and ritual.

There ain’t no party like an experimental morris dance theatrical rave party.

Work In Progress

The Portal is a work in progress from Lepus Productions. Lepus are known for the originality of their ideas and their unusual presentation of music. Come and help those ideas be born in these inclusive, exclusive, interactive behind the scenes workshops.

These development sessions are a work in progress of the audience experience - a unique opportunity to watch the team work and become part of the development of this show. Come and be a critical guinea pig taste-maker.

The Portal is interactive, and involves audiences making moving musical sculptures together, and these sessions will focus on the experiential aspects, culminating in a Q and A.

Original Music by Martin Green and James Holden (Border Community/Warp)

Co-commissioned by OCM and the North Wall Arts Centre and Southbank Centre, London.

Presented as part of Folk Weekend Oxford 2020
