Join Emma Smith at IF Oxford for a multimedia live performance. Using double bass, loops and visuals, she’ll explore the geopolitical landscape in which we find ourselves and ways to connect and feel grounded in times of trauma, chaos and mass migration.

There will be a Q&A after the performance, chaired by Professor Ray Lee. Ray is an award-winning sound artist and composer. He is a Professor of Sound Art at Oxford Brookes University and an associate artist of OCM (Oxford Contemporary Music).

Emma is part of Boom, OCM's professional development scheme, offering support for practitioners and producers who are interesed in creating and presenting inspiring contemporary music or sound based work outside of the concert hall and gallery in order to reach large and diverse audiences. She has been exploring the effect of extreme environments on our perception of time and identity, and how this is expressed through music.

Emma has forged a career as a versatile composer, improviser and collaborator. She produces the multi-genre series Bitches Brew, which showcases the best of female instrumental improvising talent and celebrates the increasingly diverse listening habits of people around the world. Emma also works for Musicians without Borders using music in post-conflict areas to "bridge divides, connect communities, and heal the wounds of war".
